Water and Sand Experiences (Sensory Table)
Learn More About Our Online Classes
Water, Sand and Sensory Tables are particularly popular with toddlers.
Goals/Skills:
- Concept and language development (empty/full, warm/cold, wet/dry)
- Small motor development and control
- Tension release/relaxation - appropriate outlet for anger
- Math Concepts (more/less, spatial concepts, measuring, comparing, properties, volume, mass, cause and effect, texture, etc.)
Supervision and Tips:
- Children must wear smocks (limit smocks to number allowed at table)
- Children assist with clean-up of spills (to encourage independence and responsibility) with child-sized brooms, wisk-brooms, sponges or mops.
- Sand (or whatever media) needs to stay in the Sensory Table.
- Remain close by for appropriate supervision, encouraging conversation.
- Children need to wash their hands before and after participating in this activity.
